Here comes another shootout between the 2 popular flatwound strings for basses out there . again .. Being a long time fan for both that constantly switch back and forth between the 2 . Here comes the new addition to the game, the low tension flats by La Bella! here's their answer to TI after all these years.
Let's start with the demo first:
Using 5 string sets on my KBP5 Classic Supreme; Gauge / Tension wise, the low tension it's very similar to their classic 760 lines .. after some reading on the internet, I believe the main difference would be the shape of the core wire . 760 uses Hex and Low Tension uses round . TI Flat has got a piece of foam sticked under the string near the bridge
My impression to the low tension flat is that it has that signature LaBellas thumpy sound, stiffness is close to the 760 in similar gauge. However the note transition / articulation seemed to be more smooth, and the finger noises are less harsh. TI with foam deadening the tone gets similar thumpy vibe. Tone was wide open for Labella, and around 70% open for TI w/ foam.
Anyways, the low tension flat is a joy to play, and my love for both are still equal as I've figured out you must have both .. lol
