Here's my cover of Bruno's Too Good to Say Goodbye.
Started as recently got impressed with the bassline of the song, and transcribed it (link somewhere). Took out my pbass with TI flat and started practicing it, got bored then switch the strings to my 8yrs old LaBella 0760M from the drawer ..
red one are TI, blue one are the 0760m .. thoughts ?
oh well, my playing sucks .. plus it's a 2 steps jump from light to extra heavy string gauge that made the playing even more difficult .. beside the intonation on the 0760m are not the best due to its age(there's no gigs anyways, can't get into troubles) .. it's still has that big full thumpy badaxx sound .. also looking forward to give my pluking fingers some good workouts .
In general .. Labella flats are Stainless Steel string that has very distinct thumpy sound, full of character, a bit more stiff to play(especially this heaviest Jamerson set), but that's also rewarding if work hard to dig into the string . with a 60s style pbass, that's motown right there.
TI are nickel flats , light gauge, low tension . Very articulated that reflect the details very very well . pluking requires more control but the result can be very rewarding. Tried it on the basswood ClassicVibe 60s p, and took it out almost immediately and went with Labella on that particular bass ... these nickel flats can be sensitive and reflect the weakness of the bass easily .
I love both of them, also love the Ernieball Cobalt Flat, it's somewhere in between these 2 yet very fun to play . Currently have that on my shortscale Stingray .
Transcription is at the top of this article
Alright, back to my finger workout , keep playing !
