Coppolo basses are often known for instruments in vintage specs where would go with nitro finish when they possibly can.   I did have a few opportunities to try out a few LG5 Standards and this happened to be a pretty impressive one.

Background:
This is a 2020 build from the Upland ..  Where Jimmy had other local shop doing the finishes beside Professor .

The poly finish is thin and the the bass resonates well ..   The matching headstock and the white pickup covers are very eye catching.

Specs:

  • Alder body
  • Maple neck in Satin finish
  • Indian rosewood fingerboard (a dark piece)
  • Dakota Red finished in Polyurethane
  • Matching headstock w/ gold logo
  • AC pickups
  • AC preamps
  • controls are: Vol / Vol / Tone / Hi boos / Lo boost , active/passive switch
  • Hipshot tuners
  • AC bent plate bridge

Playability:
Top notch playability, regular gauge string got decent tension and able to archive mid-low action and still rings nicely.   The satin neck feels fast and slick.

Sound:

The thin poly finish adds a bit more compression, the bass is still very resonant and open sounding.  Big round bottom and very punchy.    The extra compression makes it more forgiving for the plucking hand and it’s very fun to play.   The high are well balanced and gives that ‘in your face’ sound.    Coppolo pickup and preamp still shines all day .    It’s a very professional sounding instrument that can cover any situation and any genre.

Thoughts:
This is a great example of Jimmy’s work in a slightly modern way.   All the attention in details, fretworks do reflect on this lower tier model are the same as any of his more fancy build.   And honestly it’s more of a personal preference thing when it comes to the type of finish that’s being used .
