They're some luthiers who had been focusing what they've doing and follow the same vision for decades, Rob Allen has been one of them who builds very musical semi-hollow body basses that are loved by many bass players world wide. I’m lucky enough to play the little mouse not long after its bigger brother MB2, they are similar in many way and here’s some little facts between the 2.

Soon after Musicman Stingray was introduced in the mid-late 70s, active bass had become the new fasion when it comes to electric bass design. High output, active EQ . Stuart Spector probably built basses that represents this thick, puchy to hell the best. that is a very distinct sound for 80s music .

My last time buying a new bass from local music store was around 12 years ago, and in the past 10+ years, I’ve never decided to buy a new bass on the spot, on the first sight, unless it’s a crazy deal on something used. For a very long time, I think I’m somehow logical on making a purchase. Until this past weekend ....

Here's comes a fancy one; the Fodera Emperor 5 Standard bass.
Fodera has been building high end fancy electric basses (and now guitar) for over 30 years and to me their level of craftsmanship is simply the highest in the industry. And in about 2013-2014, they've incorporated more machineries in their production flow and were able to build more quality basses in a larger quantity, that's the time where these Standard line comes in the market. This Emperor 5 Standard is the first generation that features a fancy Flame Maple top, later on they offered various wood tops and now they've got the painted Classic line, but to me, it's a must to have a figured wood top for such a wood sounding instrument.
