Updated:
This is the first Coppolo bass from 2014, it was the terminal for the first chapter of my bass adventure, and about 3 years after, I traded it for a lg5 classic supreme thinking I'd be set with their most fancy offering.  The adventure moved on and the more fancy basses I played, the more I miss this one that started it all .   Not to the point that i'd call it a regret, but the more I tried and learn about basses, the more I realized how great this one sounded.  In Nov 2020, with great help from my friend Mike , I was able to aquire this bass back.  I should never let it go again.

Background:
Jimmy knows Fender basses better than Leo Fender himself.   This is an early NYC era that features a smaller body shape.  Check out my other Coppolo basses articles to find out more.

Specs:

  • Old Growth / Old Cut 2pc Alder Body
  • Old Growth / Old Cut Sugar Maple neck
  • Indian rosewood fingerboard
  • small vintage frets
  • Fiesta Orange in Nitro by Professor w/ matching headstock
  • 34" Scale
  • 19mm string spacing
  • AC Single Coil pickups
  • Vol / Vol / Tone with 2 band EQ(lo/hi, boost only)
  • 9lbs

Playability:
Medium-light weight, well balanced, exceptional fretworks, like most of them, this bass plays like butter

Sound:
This one features Indian rosewood fingerboard where a Classic Supreme often offers Brazilian rosewood or CNL or other fancy rare spices.  Indian rosewood has that pillow like big round bottom end that makes every bassist feel like home ..   where Brazilian are less bassy but mid rich, and CNL is also mid rich and has a clear uppermid .   Nitro finish gives that open sound.

Thoughts:
I can't be more thankful to have this bass back.  I missed it to the point where I ordered a new RA5 asking for the same finish . Soon I'll have it's young brother, would be fun to see ...   Thanks again to Mike for making this happen.

Well, the holygrail of jazz bass ..    it's like a pre CBS fender in a playable condition and a useful lowB string.  I got this from a trade with my evil brother in Burlington with my beloved fretless AC5 ...

Jimmy Coppolo makes amazing bass ..   NYC build has slightly smaller body, and I believe this bass is made in around 2009.
