Music as a language

Alright, another amazing mentoring from Victor Wooten's speech.  It's worth to spend this 18'31" of your life to hear what he says.

JDR-94 mod

This is not a bass diary, it's for my first electric guitar.

Couple tuning machines had the little plastic pieces broken, which made the tuning even more difficult.  It had been a few years since I re-finish the guitar, and as my first electric guitar, it is time to show it some love.

Time for motivations

Looking for motivation sometimes is hard, as human-beings get lazy easily.  it's time to watch some of my favorite videos on youtube so I can get my butt back to the seat and start practicing.

This is a little guide to introduce Compressor / Limiter from a bass player’s point of view.

Unlike other type of guitar/bass effects such as distortion, modulation(chorus, flanger), delay, reverb.  Dynamic effects such as Compressor, Limiter, Expander, and Gate change the signal’s dynamic range (amplitudes) and very often beginners have hard time hearing how their sound is being altered.  This guide covers basic information on main compressions, in a less technical form.

ebs - billy sheehan signature drive

ebs just recently released this billy sheehan signature overdrive pedal.  mainly a combination of overdrive with compressor with blend so the balance of clean and processed signal can be tweaked on the fly.

rhythm exercise

a frient of mine jack showed me this exercise sometimes before and i found it very useful and fun to practice anywhere.

this is an exercise that soul and rnb people do to tighten their rhythm and absolutely useful for doing shots in a band setup.

it's basically counting 1e+a 2 e+a 3 e+a 4 e+a, and hit on the 1 on the 1, e on the 2, + on the 3 and a on the 4.  try it with a metronome.
